Diwali was grand. New Year’s grander. What would be the most fitting for the ultimate superlative? We at SIMC threw a whim and wanted a newer and bigger bout of celebration.
So, what do we do? While we were rubbing chins and scratching heads (not necessarily our own) our brightest bulb shone. We are a media & communication college, right? We are the best in the business, right?
We will have a festival – a festival of communication. Our very own Fest-O-Comm was thus re-incepted. In the 20 years of SIMC, we have had nine Fest-O-Comm so far.
Brilliant, you say? We say, just a festival is plain vanilla – b-o-r-i-n-g. What good is a festival without ballistics blowing in your face? What good is action until and unless you feel your heart-pound-in-your-mouth with action can put Jackie Chan to shame? The ultimate goal was to rattle your brain-inside-out and shake the very framework to which you consider yourself rooted. A festival of communication that rattles your brain – food for thought, isn’t it?
Then again, normal is for normal people. We are outright outstanding. We are a niche apart. We are the face of new India and new media. We are the movers and shakers – and we won’t wait for tomorrow. We are now. We are here. We do it!
SIMC is proud to present Fest-O-Comm. The festival of communication. Before you think of another word or raise that proverbial finger let’s also announce our armory. The theme for Fest-O-Comm 2011 is War against illiteracy, piracy and apathy. Pat on our own back for this!
This is the beginning. A theme does not a festival make. There are a zillion things to worry about. There are meeting, brainstorming sessions, more meetings, chai, biscuit and more meetings. And these meetings happen in the choicest of places that Lavale hill-top has to offer. While at these “meetings” suggestions are offered, rough drafts detailed, plans withdrawn, everything reworked and re-developed, loved and trashed – all at the same time – and not necessarily in the same order.
Right at this moment, madness and mayhem prevail. But the best ideas are always mind-blowing initially, literally! We just have to wait and watch if this one turns mind-blowing or blows you out of your mind. No crystal balls here – just wait and watch!
