Tarun Mansukhani comes to SIMCinema

As SIMC gears up to meet Tarun Mansukhani on the 18th of December at SIMCinema , here’s a peek at his career over the years. After a brief stint in advertising, Tarun began his film career in 1998 as an Assistant Director to Karan Johar on the sets of Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, which went on to become a mega success. Post Kuch Kuch Hota Hai , Tarun teamed up with KJo on all of his projects as an AD, including superhits like Kal Ho Na Ho and Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gam.

Alongside, Tarun also worked as an AD on the sets of Mohabbatein and Paheli with noted film makers like Aditya Chopra and Amol Palekar. In the company of such illustrious experts, he learned the finer, technical aspects of film making and transitioned from a novice into a true professional.

Tarun’s big break in Bollywood came in 2008, with Dostana. Produced by KJo himself under the banner of Dharma Productions, Dostana was very well received at the Box Office and turned out to be one of the biggest earners of the year. An interesting fact is that Karan thinks of Tarun to be his lucky mascot and features him as an actor in all of his films. Tarun has been a part of all his films in small cameos, right up till My Name is Khan.

Tarun decided to step out of the line with his very first film. Dostana is probably the first commercial Indian film to deal with homosexuality upfront and lightly. The film was selected for the I-View Film Festival in New York. Tarun attributes this success to the youthful, humorous appeal of the movie, even while dealing with a sensitive subject.

Tarun is all set to do something different yet again with his next film, “Koochie Koochie Hota Hai”, the animated version of Kuch Kuch Hota Hai . The film promises to bring back the popular story through the world of animation. The film features voice-overs from the entire original cast. From assisting on the sets of Kuch Kuch Hota Hai to directing the animated version of the same, life has definitely come a full circle for him. And he’s sure to go a long way, too!!
